The retired football player thanked the two men who treated him after his career-ending injury

SPOKANE, Wa. — Former Seahawk receiver Ricardo Lockette got his first chance to thank two of the fire department members who helped save his life after hurting his neck in a game against the Dallas Cowboys almost two years ago.

The Seattle Times reported that Lockette was giving a speech at the Washington Fire Chiefs Conference in Spokane when he realized Deputy Chief Gerald Randall and Engineer Paramedic John Robertson of the Arlington Fire Department were there.

Lockette cried while hugging the men and telling them thank you. He said meeting the men was “a privilege, a blessing. Something I don’t take lightly.”

The receiver was injured by the Cowboys’ Jeff Heath while running to cover a punt. Lockette had reparative surgery on his neck ligaments and retired last May.
